Featured Ranges in Our Tooting Installation

Our traditional timber sash windows are made to order, allowing the proportions, glazing layout, and period detailing to respond to the individual property.Β

Available with traditional cords and weights or spiral balances, they combine engineered timber construction with modern glazing.Β

At Wiseton Road, astragal bar detailing and chrome furniture were specified across the front elevation, including the lounge bay.

For the bathroom at Wiseton Road, a PVCu casement offered a different solution from the timber sashes used elsewhere. Obscure glass was specified for privacy, with the opening configuration suited to the room itself.Β

Our wider PVCu offering includes made-to-order windows and a choice of glazing options, including obscure glass.

Timber Sash Windows for a Tooting Home

At Wiseton Road in Tooting, the window specification was adjusted to different parts of the property. Traditional timber sash windows with astragal bar detailing were fitted across the front elevation, including the lounge bay, while a PVCu casement with obscure glazing was chosen for the bathroom – selecting each window according to its setting and purpose.

Project Details & Challenges

Traditional Sash Windows Across the Front Elevation

All windows were fitted consistently across the front of the Wiseton Road property, including the prominent bay window serving the lounge. Astragal bar detailing gives the glazing a traditional pattern that carries across the elevation, helping the individual windows read as part of the same scheme. Chrome furniture completes the specification, providing a clean finish to the timber joinery.

Making the Bay Part of the Wider Window Scheme

The lounge bay forms a prominent part of the front elevation, but its window treatment remains consistent with the rest of the property. Using the same traditional sash style and astragal bar detailing connects the bay with the windows above, creating a coherent glazing pattern across the facade.

Astragal Bars and Traditional Proportions

Narrow glazing bars and balanced proportions are defining details of traditional London sash windows. At Wiseton Road, astragal bars give the new timber sashes their distinctive glazing pattern.

Because each window is bespoke, the glazing layout and proportions can be specified to respond to the architecture of the individual property.

A Different Solution for the Bathroom

The bathroom called for a different approach from the timber sash windows across the front elevation. Here, a PVCu casement window was fitted, with obscure glass specified to provide privacy. It demonstrates how the window specification was adapted to suit the requirements of each individual room.

    Project Related FAQs

Can timber sash windows be fitted into a bay window?

Yes. Timber sash windows can be made to order for individual openings, including projecting bays. At Wiseton Road, traditional sashes were fitted within the lounge bay, using the same sash style and astragal bar detailing as the upper-floor windows to create a consistent front elevation.

What are astragal bars on sash windows?

Astragal bars are narrow glazing bars used to create a traditional multi-pane appearance. They are a characteristic detail of many traditional sash window designs.

Can I use different types of replacement windows in the same house?

Yes. Different rooms and elevations can call for different window specifications. This project combines traditional timber sash windows across the front elevation with a PVCu casement in the bathroom, allowing the window type to be selected according to the individual opening and room.

What type of glazing can be used for a bathroom window?

Obscure glazing can be specified where greater privacy is required. For the bathroom at Wiseton Road, obscure glass was used within the PVCu casement window. This limits clear views through the glazing while still allowing natural light into the room.
